Frequently Asked Questions
Learn more about working with Off The Clock Resumes.
Can I see some examples of resumes you've worked on?
Yes, but please keep in mind that these resume examples are best for previewing my design style only. A job-winning resume's content will be 100% unique to that job seeker's background, skills, and job target.
The resumes I design have clean, flat designs with minimal to no graphics. I take into consideration what is appropriate for the client's industry as well as the client's career level and personal branding preferences.
Looking for something more bold? A custom Graphic Resume can be designed for you and delivered with your final documents for a $99 upgrade fee.
Applicant Tracking software can't read graphic resumes, so creating a content-focused resume should be the top priority when you're applying to jobs online. Graphic resumes can, however, boost the impression you leave on recruiters and HR professionals when:
- You are in a creative field such as Graphic Design or Digital Marketing.
- You will be attending job fairs and applying to jobs in-person.
- You are relying on your professional network to refer you to the “great fit” position.
- You are looking for a way to stand out at a job interview.
What's the process look like?
My process varies a bit depending on the services you're interested in, but all new clients start with an Are We A Good Fit & Introduce Yourself form with a resume upload option on my website. The Introduce Yourself form will also give me a better idea of where you are at in your career and job search.
Depending on the services you're interested in, I may need more information from you before I can get started which will be collected with a Work History Examples Worksheet and a 30-minute Onboarding Call. Once I have all the information I need and payment collected, I'll get started on your first draft(s).
This Interactive Process page on my website will walk you step-by-step through my process for the specific services you're interested in.
How long will it take to get my first draft(s)?
For Targeted Resumes, Executive Resumes, and Federal Resumes: Your first draft will be ready for review by 6:00 PM (PST) five business days after your payment has been processed.
For Refreshed Resumes, first drafts can be ready for review in as few as two business days depending on my availability. You’ll be able to view my availability online after completing the Introduce Yourself form.
For Targeted Cover Letters purchased with your resume, your first draft will be sent with the first draft of your resume. LinkedIn Plus is completed in two business days after your new resume has been finalized, the final documents have been delivered by email, and a short LinkedIn Questionnaire has been filled out.
How do I pay for my project?
I guarantee 100% safe and secure payments using Stripe as a payment processor. I accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, and Diners Club credit and debit cards.
For Refreshed Resumes, full payment will be collected online at the end of the Introduce Yourself form.
For Targeted and Executive Resumes, full payment will be collected online at the end of the 30-minute Review Call. For Federal Resumes, full payment will be collected online at the end of the 60-minute Phone Consultation.
I do not offer payment plans at this time.
What is your refund policy?
Since you’re purchasing a service and your first draft may serve as a final document, there are no refunds once your first drafts have been sent by email.
Do you make any guarantees?
I do not guarantee interviews, job offers, or any career outcomes. There are simply too many factors involved in the job search. Results will vary based on:
- How active you are in the job search process
- Whether or not you're applying for positions you are qualified for, and
- If you use the resume, LinkedIn profile, cover letter, etc. as advised
I do, however, guarantee 100% satisfaction through unlimited revisions. If you neglect to requesting revisions or stop communicating with me about your resume project, I’ll send your final documents and consider the project finished.
If you return weeks or months later wanting revisions that alter the focus of the resume, this is considered a New Job Target Revision (starting at $99).
How should I send my revision requests?
If you have revisions to request, I prefer that you email me a copy of your draft with notes and requested changes in a different font color within the document. An alternative preference is that you email me your notes and requested changes in the body of the email.
We can also discuss revisions over a 30-minute phone call which you’ll be able to schedule directly from the first draft delivery email.
You're welcome to use Tracked Changes to send notes and requested revisions, but I’m not a huge fan of this method. With this method, I will still make changes to the original file and communicate my feedback by email.
What's the best way to get in touch with my Resume Writer?
The fastest way to get in touch with me is by email during my typical office hours. I check my email frequently throughout the day (even when I’m away from my office), respond as quickly as I can, and will get back to you within the next business day at the absolute latest. My typical office hours are:
- Monday through Thursday from 10:00 AM - 6:00 PM (PST)
- Fridays from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM (PST)
You may also call me during my office hours, but please understand that I'm not sitting around waiting for phone calls. I block out several hours during my day to dedicate 100% of my attention to client projects. I prefer that you view my availability and schedule a 15-minute call with me or 30-minute call with me using these links.
Will my new resume work for every job I apply for?
If you're applying for jobs online, most likely no.
When you apply for jobs online, you send your resume and application to that employer's Applicant Tracking software. This software eliminates applicants and ranks the top qualified candidates based on the keywords in your resume.
For this reason, you must target your resume for each job you apply for.
I'm aware that job seekers may not be able to afford resume services for every job application, so I offer two solutions:
- New Job Target Revisions: I offer a discounted resume service after you've purchased your first resume which restarts my process to rework the focus of your resume.
- Resume Targeting Coaching: I also offer 60-minute video coaching calls where I share my screen and teach you how to analyze a job posting, identify the qualifications and skills that the resume should showcase, and retarget both your resume and a cover letter.
What if I just need a few things added or updated?
I don't offer quick edits or updates because your resume likely needs more work than you think.
If you're researching and comparing resume services, then you already know your resume isn't working. A quick change to a paragraph or two won't make a difference. Adding your most recent position or certification won't make a difference.
If your resume isn't working, it's either because:
- You're applying for jobs online with a resume that isn't ATS-compatible
- You're applying for every job online with the same resume
- Your resume has no focus which tells employers that you don't know what you want or what you offer, or
- Your resume draws more attention to your age and away from your qualifications
I ask the right questions to really get to know you, establish your personal brand to make it visible in every aspect of your job search, and write targeted resumes presenting you as the best fit for the job you want.
Do I need a LinkedIn profile?
Hiring processes and trends are constantly evolving. Industry experts and even 48% of recruiters and hiring managers anticipate that artificial intelligence and automation will replace many aspects of the hiring process in the foreseeable future. In other words, resumes may be completely replaced with online profiles and the information found online about yourself in the next 5-10 years.
LinkedIn is already using artificial intelligence and automation with their Intelligent Hiring Experience. Profiles are being instantly recommended once a job has been posted. Depending on how keyword-optimized and targeted your profile is, this platform can either help automate your job search or lower your chances of getting the job you want.
The longer you wait to embrace these changes, the further behind other job seekers you will be. This may not affect you now, but it will if you anticipate starting a job search in the future.
For these reasons, I recommend having a LinkedIn profile to all of my clients.
What all do I get with LinkedIn Plus?
It depends. If you don't have a LinkedIn profile, I'll create one for you. If you have a LinkedIn profile that needs some work, I'll provide a document with my content recommendations that you can copy-and-paste into your profile.
I create keyword-optimized Headline, Summary, Experience, Skills, Certifications, and Education sections for your profile. I'll also boost your profile with any relevant accomplishments like Courses, Projects, Honors & Awards, etc. I focus on targeting your profile to present you as the best fit for the job you want.
My approach to optimizing LinkedIn profiles will improve your visibility in search results and LinkedIn's Intelligent Hiring Experience, attract the right profile views, tell your unique story, and showcase your personal brand.
Why can't you just login and make changes to my profile?
This would risk the suspension of both of our accounts.
